General#
Can you help me transfer my server from another hosting provider?
Yes. Send us your current server details in a support ticket and we'll move it for you and keep downtime short.
What control panel is provided?
We use CorePanel, our custom-built control panel designed specifically for game servers. It's intuitive, powerful, and packed with features to make managing your server easy.
How long does setup take?
Your server is created automatically when you order. Its first start takes a few minutes while it downloads the game files, and you can follow it in the Console in CorePanel.
What are your support hours?
Our support team is based in Australia and works across AEST/AEDT hours. If you have any questions or need any assistance you can contact us at any time.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and more cards directly via Stripe. All prices are charged in Australian dollars.
What is your refund policy?
We offer a 72 hour money back guarantee. If for any reason you're not happy with your purchase or simply changed your mind, just contact us for a full refund. All we ask is that you let us know why, so we can improve our service for the future.
Do I need to port forward?
No way! We're hosting the server for you, so all you need to do is connect with the IP we provide you.
I can't login! What do I do?
If you're having issues signing in to your CoreHost account, try resetting your password through the forgot password link on the login page. If you're struggling to sign in to your control panel, reach out to us at help@corehost.com.au
What are the specs on your servers?
Our Sydney nodes run premium enterprise-grade processors with high-performance ECC memory and NVMe SSD storage, connected through a low-latency network with robust DDoS protection. We continually invest in our hardware so your server always has the performance it needs.
How much disk space is available on my server?
Unlimited. You can use as much space as you need for your server as long as you comply with our Fair Use Policy. In short, you can use as much space as you need, as long as it's related to your server (you cannot store movies, music, etc).
Where are the servers located?
Our servers are hosted in Sydney, Australia, delivering excellent ping for players across Australia and New Zealand, with plans to expand to more locations in the near future.
Can I upload files with SFTP?
Yes. Every server has its own SFTP login. Open the File Manager for your server in CorePanel and the SFTP details are at the top: host, port 2022, username and password. Use any SFTP client, such as FileZilla or WinSCP, and choose the SFTP protocol. It's the easiest way to upload files over 100 MB, like worlds and mod packs. It is SFTP only, not SSH, and the password is separate from your CoreHost password. If someone else may have seen it, press Reset password in the same place: you get a new password and the old one stops working straight away.
Windrose#
What is Windrose?
Windrose is a survival adventure game set in the Age of Piracy. Sail the high seas, build your crew and carve out your own pirate legend on a low-latency server hosted right here in Sydney for the best possible ping across Australia and New Zealand.
How many players can my Windrose server support?
Your plan sets the player limit: 4GB for up to 4 players, 8GB for up to 8 and 10GB for up to 10. Pick the plan that suits the size of your crew, and change plan later from your control panel if it grows.
How do I set a password on my Windrose server?
When you order your Windrose server you can set an optional Server Password to keep it private, or leave it blank to run a public server. You can change it later in Settings in CorePanel.
How much does a Windrose server cost?
Plans start at $4 a month for 4GB (up to 4 players), then $8 for 8GB (up to 8 players) and $10 for 10GB (up to 10 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly, and every plan is backed by our 72 hour money back guarantee.
Minecraft#
Why can't I connect to my server?
Make sure your server has been started and is online in the server control panel. Make sure you are including the port at the end of your IP. Check the error message when connecting in your game client as well as any errors that are displayed in the server console.
Can I use plugins or mods on my server?
Yes, plugins. Minecraft servers run Paper, so they take Paper, Spigot and Bukkit plugins. Open Mods for your server in CorePanel and ask the AI Mod Assistant for a plugin by name. It finds the plugin on Modrinth, picks the build made for your server's Minecraft version and adds any plugins it needs. It backs up your server, restarts it and checks the server log that every plugin was enabled. If one wasn't, it puts your server back from that backup. You can also upload a plugin .jar to the plugins folder with the File Manager, then restart the server. Forge and Fabric mods don't run on Paper, and client-side mods such as shaders go in each player's own game.
Can I use my own map on the server?
Of course! You can upload a custom world via our File Manager. If you get stuck, open a support ticket and we can help.
Valheim#
How many players can my Valheim server support?
Up to 10 players, the game's own limit. Our plans are 4GB for up to 5 players, 6GB for up to 10, and 8GB for 10 players with extra room for mods. You can change plan from your control panel.
Can I install Valheim mods?
Yes. Open Mods for your server in CorePanel and ask the AI Mod Assistant for the mod you want. It installs BepInEx and any mods it depends on, restarts the server and checks the mod loaded. You can also upload mods yourself with the File Manager.
How do I back up my Valheim world?
We provide automatic daily backups of your Valheim world. You can also create manual backups at any time through our control panel, and download them for safekeeping.
Can I transfer my existing Valheim world?
Absolutely! You can easily upload your existing world files through our file manager to continue your Viking adventure without starting over.
Core Keeper#
How many players can my Core Keeper server hold?
Your plan sets the player limit: 2GB for up to 8 players, 4GB for up to 16 and 8GB for up to 24. You can change plan from your control panel.
Why does my server take a few minutes to start the first time?
On its first start the server downloads its files and generates your world, usually in 6 to 10 minutes. You can follow it in the Console in CorePanel.
Can I install mods?
Not at the moment. The AI Mod Assistant isn't available for Core Keeper yet.
How much does a Core Keeper server cost?
$4 a month for 2GB (up to 8 players), $8 for 4GB (up to 16 players) or $12 for 8GB (up to 24 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds#
How many players can my RuneScape: Dragonwilds server hold?
A Dragonwilds dedicated server holds up to 6 players. Our plans follow Jagex's guide of 2GB plus 1GB per player: 4GB for up to 2 players, 6GB for up to 4 and 8GB for up to 6. Your plan sets the player limit, and you can change plan from your control panel.
Can PlayStation 5, Xbox and Switch 2 players join?
Yes. Dragonwilds supports crossplay, and new servers start with Who can join set to Crossplay, so PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox and Switch 2 players can share one world. To let only one platform join, change Who can join in Settings in CorePanel, then restart the server.
What is the Owner Player ID and where do I find it?
The Owner Player ID is your Dragonwilds Player ID, a 32-character code at the bottom of the in-game Settings menu, which has a button to copy it. The server needs it to start, and the player with that ID can ban and unban anyone. The server can't check the ID for typos, so copy it exactly. You can change it later in Settings in CorePanel.
How do my friends find my server?
In game, open the Worlds screen, go to the Public tab and search for your world name. The search is case-sensitive, so it has to match exactly. If you set a world password, they need that too.
What does the Admin Password do?
Players who enter the Admin Password in Pause, Settings, Server Management become admins and can ban players who are online. Keep it private, and change it in Settings in CorePanel if it gets shared.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Dragonwilds saves your world every minute while the server is running. When you stop or restart the server, CoreHost waits for the next save before it shuts down, so stopping or restarting can take up to about a minute. Kill does not wait for a save, so use Stop or Restart when you can.
Can I install mods?
Not at the moment. RuneScape: Dragonwilds has no official mod support. Community mods are .pak files shared on Nexus Mods, and PlayStation 5, Xbox and Switch 2 players can't use mods, so the AI Mod Assistant isn't available for this game. Crossplay, passwords and the world name are on your server's Settings page.
How much does a RuneScape: Dragonwilds server cost?
Plans start at $4 a month for 4GB (up to 2 players), then $6 for 6GB (up to 4 players) and $8 for 8GB (up to 6 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
Project Zomboid#
Which version of Project Zomboid does my server run?
Build 42, the current public branch on Steam. With Update on start turned on (the default), the server checks Steam for an update every time it starts, so it stays on the same version as your players' games.
Can I run Build 41?
Not at the moment. Our servers run Build 42 only, so your players need to be on the default Build 42 branch in Steam to join.
How many players can join, and how much RAM does Build 42 need?
The 10GB plan has 6 player slots and the 12GB plan has 10. Build 42 needs a lot more memory than Build 41, especially while it generates the map, so our plans start at 10GB. You can change plan from your control panel.
Why does my control panel show about 8GB in use when nobody is online?
Project Zomboid runs on Java, and the server sets aside most of its memory for Java when it starts. On the 10GB plan that shows as about 8GB in use even on an empty server. This is normal: the game uses that memory as players explore.
How do I add Steam Workshop mods?
Open Mods for your server in CorePanel and paste the mod's Steam Workshop link into the AI Mod Assistant. It backs up your world, adds the mod to your server, restarts it and checks in the console that the world and the mod loaded. If they don't, it puts your previous mod list back by itself. Many Workshop mods need another mod to work: the assistant tells you which one is missing so you can add it first. Your players download the mods automatically when they join. The assistant manages the mod list because CorePanel rewrites the WorkshopItems and Mods lines of the server's .ini file on every start. Many Build 41 mods don't work on Build 42.
How do I change zombie population, speed and other sandbox settings?
In Settings in CorePanel, turn on Use these world settings, then choose the zombie population, speed, strength, toughness, infection, cognition, respawn and skill XP rate. They apply after a restart, and zombie population only changes parts of the map nobody has visited yet. For any other sandbox option, stop the server and edit Zomboid/Server/corehost_SandboxVars.lua in the File Manager.
How do my friends connect?
Share the IP address and port from your server's Overview page. In Project Zomboid, choose Join, add a server with that IP address and port, then connect. If you set a Join password in Settings, they need that too. To list the server in the in-game browser instead, turn on Show in the server browser in Settings. There's no port forwarding to set up.
Can PlayStation or Xbox players join?
No. Project Zomboid is a PC game on Steam (Windows, macOS and Linux) and has no console version.
How much does a Project Zomboid server cost?
$10 a month for 10GB (up to 6 players) or $12 a month for 12GB (up to 10 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
Factorio#
How do my friends connect?
Share the IP address and port from your server's Overview page. In Factorio, choose Multiplayer, then Connect to address, and enter the address as IP:port. If you set a Join password in Settings, they need that too. Everyone needs the same Factorio version as the server, and the Space Age expansion if your world uses Space Age. There's no port forwarding to set up.
Which version of Factorio does my server run?
The newest stable release from factorio.com. With Update on start turned on (the default), the server checks for a new release every time it starts and updates to it. Players need exactly the same version as the server, so if they can't join after a Factorio update, restart the server. Before the version changes, the server copies your newest save to the saves-before-update folder. A world saved by a newer version can't be opened by an older one, so the server never moves back to an older version. If your server has mods, a new major version (for example 2.0 to 2.1) waits until you use Reinstall server on the Settings page, because mods often need their own update first. Reinstall keeps your saves, mods and settings.
Can I run the experimental version?
Yes. In Settings, open Advanced, set Update channel to Experimental, then restart the server. It updates to Factorio's newest experimental release, and your players must switch their own game to the same version to join. Make a backup first: a world saved by the experimental version can't be opened by an older stable version, so if you switch back to Stable, the server stays on the experimental version until the stable release catches up.
Do my players need Space Age?
Only for a Space Age world. You choose Space Age when you order, and it also turns on Quality and Elevated Rails. On a Space Age world every player needs the Space Age expansion to join. With Space Age off, the world is the base game. The choice is fixed when your world is created: an existing world keeps the expansions it was made with, so changing it means starting a new world.
Which plan do I need?
The 2GB plan has 8 player slots, the 4GB plan 16 and the 6GB plan 32. Factorio's memory use grows with the size of your factory and how much of the map has been explored, not with the number of players. In our tests with nobody online and no factory built, a new Space Age world used about 0.4GB, and so did a map explored across all five Space Age planets. A much larger explored map used about 0.9GB, and generating that much map at once peaked at about 1.25GB, so our plans start at 2GB. Buildings add memory too, so large factories and Space Age bases may need the 4GB or 6GB plan. You can change plan from your control panel.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Stop and Restart send Factorio's /quit command, which saves the world and then shuts the server down. In our tests that took under 6 seconds, even for a large map. The server also autosaves every 10 minutes by default. Kill ends the server at once without saving, and the next start loads the newest autosave, so anything since that autosave is lost. If the server runs out of memory, it restarts and loads the newest autosave the same way. Use Stop or Restart when you can.
Does my factory keep running when nobody is online?
Not by default. Pause when empty is on for new servers, so the game pauses while nobody is online. To keep your factory running while everyone is away, turn it off in Settings and restart the server.
How do I play a save from my own game?
Stop the server, upload the save's .zip file into the saves folder in the File Manager, then start the server: it loads the newest save in that folder. Upload while the server is stopped. If you upload while it runs and then press Restart, the server saves the running world first, which makes that the newest save again. The server turns Space Age, Quality and Elevated Rails on or off to match your save. Your save must come from the same or an older Factorio version than the server's. To take your world home, download it from the saves folder (a new server's world is saves/world.zip).
How do I start a new world, or change the map settings?
Space Age, map preset, map seed and peaceful mode are only used when the server creates a new world. To start one, make a backup, set these under New world in Settings, stop the server, delete the files in the saves folder, then start the server. It creates the new world with those settings, which took about 8 seconds in our tests. While a world exists it keeps its own settings, and the Console says so if your Settings differ.
What can I change in Settings?
Server name, description, join password, pausing when empty, who can pause, AFK kick, how often the game autosaves and how many autosaves are kept, update on start, admins, the whitelist, public listing with your factorio.com username and token, the new world options and, under Advanced, the update channel. CoreHost writes these into the server's settings files each time it starts, so changes apply after a restart, and editing the same values in the files is undone at the next start. Player slots are set by your plan.
How do I add admins or use a whitelist?
In Settings, enter factorio.com usernames separated by commas under Admins or Whitelisted players, turn Whitelist on to let only those players join, then restart the server. A list set in Settings replaces the server's list at every start. Leave a list empty and the server keeps the list it has. With Whitelist on and no names, nobody can join.
Can my server appear in Factorio's public server list?
Factorio only lists servers that use a factorio.com account. To ask it to list yours, turn on Public listing in Settings and add your factorio.com username and token (the token from your profile on factorio.com, not your password), then restart. Without them the server is not listed, the Console says why, and players join by address. If the username or token is wrong, the server keeps running but is not listed, and the Console shows Matching server connection failed.
Can I install mods?
Yes, by uploading them yourself. The AI Mod Assistant can't install Factorio mods, because the Factorio mod portal only lets a signed-in factorio.com account download them. Download the mods from mods.factorio.com, make a backup, stop the server, upload the .zip files to the mods folder in the File Manager, then start it. The Console shows a Loading mod line for each mod that loads. If a mod can't load, for example because it needs another mod or was made for another Factorio version, the server doesn't start and the Console names the mod and the reason: remove that .zip and start again. Every player needs the same mods as the server. Removing a mod also removes its items and buildings from your world, so back up before every change.
What's in my backups?
Your saves, mods and settings files. The game files are left out to keep backups small, so after you restore a backup with delete all files ticked, the next start downloads the same Factorio version again. That start took about 45 seconds in our tests instead of about 25.
Can Nintendo Switch players join?
We haven't tested the Nintendo Switch version of Factorio with our servers, so we can't promise that Switch players can join.
How much does a Factorio server cost?
$2 a month for 2GB (up to 8 players), $4 for 4GB (up to 16 players) or $6 for 6GB (up to 32 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
Terraria#
What's the difference between tModLoader and vanilla?
You choose the server type when you order. tModLoader runs Terraria with mods from the Steam Workshop, and players join with tModLoader, a free game on Steam. Vanilla runs the official Terraria server with no mods, and players join with Terraria itself. tModLoader is currently built on Terraria 1.4.4, while vanilla servers run Terraria 1.4.5. A world made by one type can't be opened by the other, so the type can't be changed later without a new world. Contact support if you want to switch.
How do my friends connect?
Share the IP address and port from your server's Overview page. In Terraria or tModLoader, choose Multiplayer, then Join via IP, pick a character and enter the IP address, then the port. If you set a server password, they need that too. Players need the same version as your server: tModLoader players need tModLoader, and vanilla players need Terraria. There's no port forwarding to set up.
Which version does my server run?
tModLoader servers run tModLoader's stable release (Stable in Settings). Steam keeps your players' tModLoader on the newest stable release, and your server moves to a new one at its next restart once CoreHost has checked it. Vanilla servers run the newest Terraria server release CoreHost has checked (Latest in Settings). You can pick one of the listed older versions in Settings instead, for example while players' games catch up. Players need the same version as the server, and a tModLoader server tells a player on another version which version it runs. Before the version changes, the server copies your world files to saves/VersionBackups. A world saved by a newer version can't be opened by an older one: the server then doesn't start, and the Console says why.
Which plan do I need?
The 2GB plan has 8 player slots, the 4GB plan 16 and the 6GB plan 32. In our tests with nobody online, a Large vanilla world peaked at about 1.3GB of memory, and a Large tModLoader world with no mods or a few small mods used about 1 to 1.4GB, so both fit the 2GB plan. Calamity Mod with Calamity Mod Music peaked at about 1.9GB, and with Thorium added at about 2.3GB, so big mod packs need the 4GB plan or larger. Bigger mod packs and more players need more memory. You can change plan from your control panel.
How do I add mods?
On a tModLoader server, open Mods for your server in CorePanel and paste the mod's Steam Workshop link into the AI Mod Assistant. It backs up your server, adds the mod, restarts the server and checks the tModLoader log that the mod loaded. If it didn't, it puts your previous mod list back by itself. Some mods need another mod to work, for example Calamity Mod needs Calamity Mod Music: the assistant adds the Workshop items a mod lists as required, and tells you if one is still missing. The assistant manages your mod list because the server rewrites it at every start, so mod files uploaded by hand are not turned on. Big mod packs make starts slower: a new Large world with Calamity Mod took about 8 minutes in our tests. Vanilla servers can't run mods.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Stop and Restart tell Terraria to save the world and then shut down, which took a few seconds in our tests. Terraria's server didn't save the world by itself while it ran, so CoreHost tells it to save on a timer: every 10 minutes by default, or every 5, 15 or 30 minutes with Autosave in Settings. Kill ends the server at once without saving, so anything since the last autosave is lost. Use Stop or Restart when you can.
Why does my server show Starting for a few minutes?
Your world is made the first time the server starts: in our tests about 3 minutes for a Medium world and 4 to 7 minutes for a Large one, counting the install. The server shows Starting until the world is ready, and you can follow it in the Console. Later starts load the world you have, which took about a minute in our tests, longer with big mod packs.
How do I start a new world, or change world size and difficulty?
In Settings, enter a new World name and choose the World size, Difficulty and, if you like, a World seed, then restart the server. It makes the new world at that start and shows Starting until the world is ready. Your other worlds stay in saves/Worlds, and setting a name again loads that world. Size, difficulty and seed are only used when a world is made, so they never change a world that already exists.
What can I change in Settings?
World name, and the size, difficulty and seed for new worlds, the server password, the message of the day, how often the world autosaves, Terraria's cheat protection, how often enemy positions are sent to players and the game version. tModLoader servers also have Update mods on start. CoreHost writes these into serverconfig.txt each time the server starts, so changes apply after a restart, and editing the same lines in the file is undone at the next start. Player slots are set by your plan, and the server type is fixed when you order.
Can console or mobile players join?
Our servers run the PC versions of Terraria and tModLoader. Terraria on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch doesn't connect to PC servers at the moment. We haven't tested mobile players, so we can't promise that they can join.
How much does a Terraria server cost?
$2 a month for 2GB (up to 8 players), $4 for 4GB (up to 16 players) or $6 for 6GB (up to 32 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
V Rising#
How do my friends connect?
Players find your server by its Server name in V Rising's online server list, then join it, entering the join password if you set one. Keep List on Epic on in Settings: V Rising's server browser shows the Epic list by default. Your server uses two ports, both opened for you, so there's no port forwarding to set up.
Can PlayStation players join?
No. Our servers run the PC version of the V Rising dedicated server, and the PlayStation 5 version of V Rising plays on its own servers.
Which plan do I need?
The 6GB plan has 10 player slots, the 8GB plan 20 and the 12GB plan 40. In our tests with nobody online, a V Rising server used about 2.9GB of memory, and about 3.2GB with the BepInEx mod loader and one server mod. More players use more memory, and we haven't measured that yet. You can change plan from your control panel.
Why does my server show Starting for several minutes?
V Rising servers take a while to start. In our tests the first start after ordering took about 9 minutes, counting the download of the server files (about 2GB) and a new world, and later starts took 4 to 6 minutes. The server shows Starting until V Rising says it is ready, and you can follow it in the Console.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Stop and Restart ask V Rising to save the world and shut down. In our tests the save was written within 3 seconds and the server was offline within 45 seconds. V Rising also autosaves every 2 minutes by default (Autosave interval in Settings), and about three times less often while nobody is online and Lower FPS when empty is on, as it is by default. If V Rising doesn't shut down within 2 minutes, CoreHost stops it and the last autosave is kept. Kill ends the server at once without saving, so use Stop or Restart when you can.
How do I change PvP, sieges and other game rules?
Choose a Game mode in Settings. Each one is a complete set of game rules that comes with V Rising: Standard PvE turns off player versus player, and the PvP presets include Standard, Duo, Trio and Solo PvP, versions with daily, weekend or no sieges, Hardcore presets and Level presets. Difficulty (Easy, Normal or Brutal) is a separate setting. Both apply after a restart, to your current world too.
How do I start a new world, or go back to an old one?
In Settings, change World save name and restart the server. V Rising starts a new world in a folder with that name. Your old world stays in save-data/Saves, and changing the name back loads it again.
Can I add mods?
CoreHost doesn't offer mods on V Rising servers at the moment, and the AI Mod Assistant can't add them. V Rising server mods use the BepInEx mod loader and are shared on Thunderstore. BepInEx prepares its files the first time it starts, which in our tests worked on the 12GB plan and ran out of memory on the 6GB plan. If BepInEx fails to start, the server stops, starts again without mods and says why in the Console, so a mod problem can't keep your world offline.
What can I change in Settings?
Server name, join password, server description, game mode, difficulty, world save name, how often the world autosaves and how many autosaves to keep, listing on Epic and Steam, Update on start and Lower FPS when empty. CoreHost passes them to V Rising each time the server starts, so changes apply after a restart. Player slots are set by your plan.
How much does a V Rising server cost?
$6 a month for 6GB (up to 10 players), $8 for 8GB (up to 20 players) or $12 for 12GB (up to 40 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
Don't Starve Together#
What is a cluster token and where do I get one?
Every Don't Starve Together server needs a cluster token from a Klei account. Sign in at accounts.klei.com, open Games, then Don't Starve Together, then Game Servers, choose Add New Server and copy the token. It starts with pds-. Paste it into the order form, or into Cluster token in Settings later. Your server can't start without one.
What if Klei doesn't accept my token?
The server stops within about a minute of starting and the Console says Klei did not accept the cluster token. It doesn't keep retrying. Make a new token the same way, paste it into Cluster token in Settings, save and start the server.
What are the Caves?
The Caves are Don't Starve Together's underground world. Your server runs the surface and the Caves together on every plan. To run only the surface, turn off Caves in Settings and restart. That uses less memory, and turning the Caves off doesn't delete the Caves world.
How many players can join, and how much memory does the server use?
The 4GB plan has 6 player slots, the 5GB plan 12 and the 6GB plan 20. With nobody online, the surface and the Caves together use about 2.1GB (about 1.2GB with the Caves off). The rest of your plan is room for players, mods and your world as it grows. You can change plan from your control panel.
What can I change in Settings?
Server name, server password, server description, player versus player, pause when empty, the Caves, extra admins and your cluster token. CoreHost writes them into the server's config files each time it starts, so changes apply after a restart, and editing the same values in the files is undone at the next start. Player slots are set by your plan.
How do I make someone an admin?
Add their Klei user ID, which starts with KU_, to Extra admins in Settings, then restart the server. Separate several IDs with commas. CoreHost writes them into the server's adminlist.txt each time it starts.
How do I add Steam Workshop mods?
Open Mods for your server in CorePanel and paste the mod's Steam Workshop link into the AI Mod Assistant. It backs up your world, adds the mod to both the surface and the Caves, restarts the server and checks the server logs that each mod loaded on the surface and in the Caves. If a mod doesn't load or the world doesn't start, it puts your previous mod list back by itself. Mods run with their default options. Mods marked client only go in your own game, not on the server. Mods Steam still keeps in its old Workshop format didn't download on the server in our tests, so the assistant tells you instead of installing them.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Stop and Restart tell both the surface and the Caves to save and shut down, and CoreHost waits for them to finish. In our tests a stop took about 25 seconds. Kill ends the server at once without saving, so use Stop or Restart when you can.
Why does my server take a minute or two to start?
Every start checks Steam for a Don't Starve Together update first, because players can't join a server that is on an older version than their game. Then both worlds load. In our tests a start took 1 to 2 minutes. The first start after you order also downloads the game (about 4.5GB) and creates your worlds, which took 7 to 10 minutes in our tests.
What is in a backup?
Your worlds, the server's config files and the mods folder. The game files and your cluster token are left out, which keeps backups small and your token out of them. Restoring a backup doesn't change the Settings page or your mod list: the next start writes them into the files again. If you restore a backup with delete all files ticked, the next start downloads the game again (about 4.5GB), so it takes several minutes. In our test the server was running again after about 8 minutes, with the world as it was when the backup was made.
Can PlayStation or Xbox players join?
No. The PlayStation and Xbox versions of Don't Starve Together can't join PC servers. Players need the game on Steam.
How much does a Don't Starve Together server cost?
$4 a month for 4GB (up to 6 players), $5 for 5GB (up to 12 players) or $6 for 6GB (up to 20 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
Unturned#
Why does my Unturned server need a Steam login token?
Unturned only lists a server on its internet server list, and only lets players join it over the internet, when the server has a Steam Game Server Login Token (GSLT) from its owner. Without one your server is LAN only, and the Console says so. To make a token, sign in at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers, enter App ID 304930 and any memo, then copy the token into Steam login token in your server's Settings and restart. The token belongs to your Steam account, and CoreHost never needs your Steam login.
What if I can't create a token, or Steam doesn't accept it?
Steam only gives tokens to accounts that are not limited (a limited account has not spent US$5 in the Steam store), have a phone number, have Unturned in their library (it is free) and are not community banned or locked, so check you can create one before you order. If Steam doesn't accept the token in Settings, your server starts again without it, runs LAN only and says why in the Console. Create a new token, put it in Settings and restart.
What can I change in Settings?
Server name, Steam login token, join password, owner Steam ID, map, difficulty (Easy, Normal or Hard), PvP or PvE, camera perspective, cheats and the welcome message. The owner Steam ID makes that player the server owner, with admin rights in game. CoreHost writes these into Servers/corehost/Server/Commands.dat each time the server starts, so changes apply after a restart, and editing the same lines in the file is undone at the next start. Other commands you add to that file yourself are kept. Player slots are set by your plan.
Which maps can I play?
PEI, Washington, Russia, Yukon and Germany are built in: pick one in Settings and restart. Other official maps such as Arid, Elver, Buak, Kuwait, A6 Polaris and Hawaii are curated Steam Workshop maps, so the server has to download the map first. If the map you set isn't installed, the server loads PEI and the Console says so. Each map keeps its own world, so switching maps doesn't delete the one you left.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Unturned has no autosave of its own, so CoreHost saves your world every 10 minutes while the server runs. Stop and Restart send Unturned's shutdown command, which saves the world before the server closes, and the server shows offline about 20 to 25 seconds later. Kill ends the server at once without saving, so anything since the last save is lost: use Stop or Restart when you can. Once the map has loaded, you can also type save in the Console.
Can I add Workshop maps, mods or plugins?
Yes, Steam Workshop maps and items. Paste the item's Workshop link into the AI Mod Assistant (Mods, in CorePanel). It backs up your server, adds the item, restarts the server and checks the server log that the item installed and the world loaded. If it did not, it puts your previous list back by itself. To play a Workshop map, ask the assistant to play it: it also sets the map in Settings, and the world on your old map is kept. Workshop maps are large downloads (Arid is about 430 MB) and most use more memory than PEI, Yukon or Washington, so choose the 4GB plan or larger for maps like Arid. Plugins such as RocketMod and OpenMod run their own code on your server, so the assistant doesn't install them. You can add them yourself with the File Manager, but CoreHost hasn't tested them.
Which plan do I need?
The 2GB plan has 12 player slots, the 4GB plan 24 and the 6GB plan 48. The map matters too: with nobody online, PEI, Yukon and Washington use about 0.7 to 0.8GB, Russia about 1.2GB, Germany about 1.3GB and the Arid Workshop map about 1.7GB. The 2GB plan suits PEI, Yukon or Washington. For Russia, Germany or Workshop maps, choose the 4GB plan or larger. You can change plan from your control panel.
How much does an Unturned server cost?
$2 a month for 2GB (up to 12 players), $4 for 4GB (up to 24 players) or $6 for 6GB (up to 48 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
Vintage Story#
Which version of Vintage Story does my server run?
The newest stable release, unless you choose another. With Automatic updates on (the default), the server installs the newest stable release each time it starts, so after a Vintage Story update your players update their game too. To stay on one release, for example while your mods catch up, turn Automatic updates off, or set Game version in Settings to that release, such as 1.22.7, and the server installs it at the next start. With Automatic updates off, the server keeps its release, also after a reinstall or a restore. Releases older than 1.22 can't run on this server. Make a backup before you change version.
Which plan do I need?
The 4GB plan has 4 player slots, the 6GB plan 8 and the 8GB plan 16. In our tests a new world with nobody online used about 1GB of memory, and about 1.8GB with 10 popular mods. Vintage Story suggests about 300MB more for each player. You can change plan from your control panel.
What can I change in Settings?
Server name, join password, admin player, the public server list, whitelist, player versus player, automatic updates and game version, plus the play style, seed and name used for a new world. CoreHost applies them each time the server starts, so changes apply after a restart. Player slots are set by your plan. Other options in data/serverconfig.json stay as you set them: stop the server before you edit that file in the File Manager.
How do I make myself an admin?
Put your Vintage Story player name in Admin player, on the order form or in Settings. Each time the server starts, it gives that player the Admin role, even before they have joined. If the name isn't a Vintage Story player, the Console says so and the server keeps running. Removing the name later doesn't take the role away: type /player NAME role suplayer in the Console for that.
How do I keep my server private?
Set a join password in Settings, or turn on Whitelist so only players you add can join. To add a player, type /player NAME whitelist on in the Console while the server is running. Your server stays out of the public server list unless you turn on Show in the public server list.
Does my world save when I stop or restart the server?
Yes. Stop and Restart send Vintage Story's /stop command, which saves the world before the server shuts down, even when a save is already running. If you press Stop while the server is still starting, it stops near the end of the start-up, which took up to a minute and a half in our tests. Vintage Story also saves the world every 5 minutes while it runs. Kill ends the server at once without saving, so anything since the last save is lost: use Stop or Restart when you can.
How do I start a new world or change the play style?
Play style, World seed and World name are only used when the server creates a new world. To start one, stop the server with Stop and open data/Saves in the File Manager. If files ending in -wal or -shm are next to default.vcdbs, part of your world is still in them, so don't delete or rename them: start the server, wait until it is running and stop it with Stop again, which leaves only default.vcdbs. Then rename default.vcdbs (or download it and delete it), set the new world in Settings and start the server. To go back to the old world later, stop the server, rename the new default.vcdbs, then rename the old file back to default.vcdbs. The play styles are Standard (the game's default), Exploration, Wilderness survival, Homo sapiens and Creative building.
Can I add mods?
Ask the AI Mod Assistant (Mods, in CorePanel) for a mod by name. It finds the mod on the official Vintage Story Mod DB, picks the release made for your server's game version and adds any mods it needs first. It backs up your server, restarts it and checks the server log that every mod loaded. If the server doesn't start, it puts your previous mods back by itself. Mods that only change a player's own game (client-side mods) aren't installed on the server. You can also upload .zip mods to the data/Mods folder in the File Manager yourself. If you use mods, you may want Automatic updates off until your mods support a new Vintage Story release.
What's in my backups?
Your server's data folder: the world, settings, logs and mods. Vintage Story's own game files are left out to keep backups small. The server downloads them again by itself when they are missing, for example after you restore a backup with delete all files ticked, so that start takes a little longer.
What happens if my server crashes?
In our tests, when the game stopped unexpectedly, CorePanel started it again by itself. Vintage Story saves the world every 5 minutes, so a crash can lose up to the last 5 minutes of play. Each start moves the previous logs to data/Logs/Archive, so the log of the run that crashed is kept there. If it keeps crashing after you added a mod, stop the server, delete that mod's .zip from data/Mods in the File Manager and start it again. You can also restore a backup from the Backups page.
Can PlayStation or Xbox players join?
No. Vintage Story is a PC game for Windows, macOS and Linux, sold on vintagestory.at, and it has no console version. Each player needs their own Vintage Story account.
How much does a Vintage Story server cost?
$4 a month for 4GB (up to 4 players), $6 for 6GB (up to 8 players) or $8 for 8GB (up to 16 players). Prices are in Australian dollars and billed monthly.
